The Manga Afternoon event, recognized as the largest gathering dedicated to cosplay and Japanese pop culture in Morocco, has announced a historic new milestone for the country’s cosplay scene. For the first time, the Kingdom of Morocco is officially joining the prestigious Extreme Cosplay Gathering (ECG) circuit, one of Europe’s most renowned cosplay competitions, held every year at Japan Expo Paris.
Starting in 2026, Manga Afternoon will become the official host of the Moroccan selections for the competition. Up to four Moroccan cosplayers, competing solo or as a group, will have the unique opportunity to represent the country at the ECG grand finale in Paris in July 2026, alongside participants from more than 20 countries. This exceptional collaboration now places Moroccan cosplay on the map of the world’s leading cosplay nations.
This initiative marks a major turning point for Morocco’s entire anime and cosplay fan community. It recognizes the talent, creativity and professionalism of Moroccan artists, while opening up new opportunities for cultural exchange and for showcasing local artistic expertise internationally, as demonstrated by the Moroccan qualifiers for the WORLD COSPLAY SUMMIT, the world’s largest cosplay event, which took place on May 17 and 18 during FICAM. Manga Afternoon’s upcoming events are shaping up to be unmissable gatherings for fans and creators, with both national and international significance.
